Re-Thinking “Church”

 JANUARY/FEBRUARY SERMON SERIES

Is the Christian Faith out-dated?
Is the Bible obsolete?
Is the church irrelevant?

Christians will assert that Jesus Christ is still the Light of the World, and “the Church is the last, best hope of humanity.” But how do we get the word out to folks who wonder if the Bible, Jesus and the Church are quaint relics of a bygone era and best forgotten.  Do we need to make changes in how we function and how we communicate?  George's sermons in the New Year will be offering some possible ways to “rethink church”—how we can be faithful to the core of the Gospel and be relevant to our changing culture.

Jan. 3 COURAGE: “Walk the Tightrope Between Two Worlds!“
Jan. 10           COMMITMENT: “A New Breed of Disciple!”
Jan. 17           LEADERSHIP: “What If ‘Church’ Was a Verb?”
Jan. 24           RELEVANCE: “Are Young People Already ‘Gone’?”
Jan. 31           FACILITY: “An Embassy Fit for the Ambassadors!”
Feb. 7             INTEGRITY: “Really Making a Difference!”
Feb. 14           COMMUNITY: “What The World Needs Now…”

You are invited to come, hear and do some of your own rethinking

DO YOU HAVE ANY OLD PHOTOS OF OUR CHURCH?

I am calling on you folks out there to help me find any photos of our church building, particularly older photos from the late forties when the current building was under construction.  Other helpful photographs taken of the Chapel or the CLC under construction would be highly useful.  Any memorabilia from earlier times is also welcome.

I have started a documentary film project that will explore the history of our church building, from the early days of the wooden siding, one-room structure all the way through to today and our magnificent building that is the most beautiful church in Ada and certainly ranks in the upper echelon of alluring churches in Oklahoma.  But hey, I'm biased!

So, I need your help.  I have uncovered many great photos from the church library but I need more.  Do you have a wedding photo taken in the sanctuary during the 1950s or 60s?  I need it.  Do you own a postcard with images of any of our buildings?  I need that too.  Old 8mm and Super 8 films shot in and around the church would be a special treasure.

Remember, this project is about the history of the various buildings the FUMC of Ada has occupied.

Any photos will work, Polaroid, black and white, color, large, small, etc.  I will have a storage container available in the front office so you can drop off any photos.   Please, please, please identify them with your name and phone number or email.  I plan to scan and return them.  Anyone who has questions or tips can call me at 580-436-5419 (please leave a message if I don't answer) or email:  dustbowlfilms@gmail.com

Thank you for your help and support,

Will Boggs

P.S.  I take great care in handling other people's photos.  I do it all the time with other projects.  I have borrowed, handled and scanned thousands of photographs and have not lost or damaged one yet, so don't worry.
