First United Methodist Church of Ada is a mainline UMC with worship attendance averaging 260, located in a county seat small city with a mid-sized state university (East Central University). We have a large youth program with diverse ministries, seeking to expand. We are blessed with excellent facilities, stable funding, strong support from pastor and staff, and several committed parents and volunteers. We seek a committed, motivating Servant who is familiar with youth culture and with the United Methodist ethos. This person will
(1) love, teach and empower the youth for mission,
(2) recruit, equip and train adult leaders and
(3) organize and coordinate a growing, multi-faceted youth program
as part of the wider church mission of Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World.
We are open to someone possessing auxiliary skills (to supplement our current ministries) such as (1) leading contemporary worship and music in a Traditional (morphing-to-Blended) worship service or (2) recreational ministry in an underused gym/family center or (3) campus ministry augmenting the United Campus Ministry/Wesley Foundation at ECU.
The right person will come with a love for young people, a passion for reaching them with the Gospel, a growing theological competence, an awareness of his/her own competencies and weaknesses (We all have both.), and skills to recruit and train laity to supplement the weaknesses.
