Reverend Paul Escamilla is Senior Pastor of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas.  An ordained elder in the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, he served churches in the Dallas area for over twenty years and taught at Perkins School of Theology as an adjunct professor of preaching before moving at Austin in 2010.

Paul is a three-time graduate of Emory University, where he received B.A. in Spaish as well as the Master of Divinity (1984) and a Doctor of Ministry (1987) degrees.

He is the author of Seasons of Communion, Longing for Enough in a Culture of More, and True When Whispered, as well as a contributor to The Wesley Study Bible, At Home with God, and numerous other publications.

Paul is married to Elizabeth, a pediatric nurse.

Paul has asked that those attending the Retreat bring their own personal Bibles with them.

Pastor David's 10:45 a.m. sermons are now available on the website.  Click on sermon link and then the Sunday of the church year to watch.  DVD's and audio CD's of the complete service are available through the church office.  Sermons will remain up for 4 - 6 weeks until being deleted to make space for newer sermons.

The Spiritual Gift Wrap-up Sunday Evening which occurred on January 29th was a great success.  The Fellowship Hall was full of people who were attempting to know more about the gifts that God had given them through the presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives.  The food was great and fellowship was lively. 

The most important part of the evening was the discussion that occurred at the tables with the convener and other participants.  The focus at each table was with one particular gift.  The Spiritual Gift inventory was used to specify which table each one attended and the discussion centered on that persons most prominent gift.

What discussions took place and what a learning process.  We feel that many great things are in the near future for the First United Methodist Church of Ada.

Coming Saturday February 11, 2012 to Ada First United Methodist Church.  What will this be like?  Worship, a luncheon and small groups.  Make plans to attend this great happening.

Great things are happening across the Ardmore District!  Churches are growing and ministries expanding. God’s Spirit is moving all over our churches!  Our new Idea Work Ships will be designed so we can learn and network with one another. Meeting in small groups of all ages we will spend time learning from one another, sharing dreams for ministry and praying together.  This will be a high-point of the entire day!!  DO NOT MISS THIS SESSION!!

A special offering will be received for the District Youth Camp Program and Scholarships. Help us to reach more young people through the Cross Point Camp and Growing in Grace.

Pastor David will be leading us in a twelve session study of the Book of Revelation beginning Monday January 9th at 6:30 pm.  The place to meet will depend up on the number of participants enrolled.

Please Sign up before Sunday January 8th.  The study book for this course will be $12 and will be ordered on the 9th.

Hour of Power Bible Study is for anyone who desires to learn better how to study their Bible.  Class meets on Monday at Noon in the Disciple Class room.  Ginger Daniel is leading the class.

Ginger will begin a new discussion on fasting and how it can ignite your prayer life.

Ginger is an amazing teacher/facilitator.  If you are not currently attending her class, consider joining the class on fasting.  The date to begin is January 9th.

The Singles Bible study begins again on January the 3rd.  The class meets at 7:00 pm in the Disciple Classroom.  The class is led by Pastor Don with plenty of help from everyone who attends.

The class includes a DVD presentation that highlights a passage of scripture and the geographical setting of the passage. 

Singles of all ages are invited to attend and enjoy the fellowship.

Nashville, Tenn.:  The Commission on the General Conference has selected “Make Disciples of Jesus Christ to Transform the World” as the theme for The United Methodist Church’s 2012 General Conference, scheduled for April 24-May 4 in Tampa, Fla.

The theme echoes the mission of The United Methodist Church to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world as a way of aligning the General Conference with the denomination’s central mission—so that the conference is not a one-time event, but a part of the ongoing ministry of the church.

A committee of representatives from the Commission on the General Conference and the Council of Bishops was charged with making recommendations for a theme and logo to the full commission for approval. Once a theme was selected, the United Methodist Publishing House’s design team developed logo proposals for consideration.

“We sensed that people across the church are longing for clarity about our mission, and we believed that the theme of the General Conference should reinforce and celebrate that mission,” said Jim Harnish, a member of the commission and chair of the committee. “We hope that the Spirit of God will use this theme to unite and energize our people to fulfill this mission and enable us to set clear priorities for the use of our resources.”

The logo which complements the theme depicts a graphic image of the cross (representing the presence of Jesus Christ at the center of our mission) with circles extending from the cross (expressing energy and movement into ministry in the world) imposed against a bright sun and blue water (representing Tampa, Fla. as the conference site). The imperative verbs “make” and “transform” underscore the urgency of the mission and call for active response.

The Commission also announced that the official General Conference 2012 website will be http://gc2012.umc.org. The site is expected to be available by early fall.  A graphic of the logo and a more detailed interpretation of the theme is available here.

About General Conference 2012
General Conference is the top policy-making body of The United Methodist Church. The 1000-member assembly meets once every four years to consider revisions to church law, as well as adopt resolutions on current moral, social, public policy and economic issues. It also approves plans and budgets for churchwide programs for the next four years. The 2012 meeting will take place April 24-May 4 at the Tampa Convention Center.
